"Running is truly, the skill of falling forward in a controlled manner."
It is a myth that running is a measurement of fitness. After some experimentations, running is like any other sport. It must be taught and learned. It is structured and it has principles, laws and fundamentals of movement.
It is like the footwork in any other sport like fencing, rugby etc. It is only extremely footwork intense with significantly lesser emphasis placed on the forms of the rest of the body but still, no doubt just as important.
The only few stations left in IPPT that still truly tests physical strength and endurance rather than skill would be Chin Up (then again, changes in the body mechanical form can influence the inertia and change mechanical forces, increase amount of muscle fibre recruitment etc.) . Standing Board Jump is about knowing how to jump, shuttle run is about the skill and ability to change direction quickly, 2.4km run is about knowing how to run and finally everyone scores 40 or full pts for sit up. I've yet to meet a fit person who is unable to score 40 sit ups.
Jeez. And we call ourselves Fitness Specialists, professionals, Physical Training Instructors when we come up with such stupid tests.
