A short discourse on humanity.
"A mature person is one who is does not think only in absolutes, who is able to be objective even when deeply stirred emotionally, who has learned that there is both good and bad in all people and all things, and who walks humbly and deals charitably with the circumstances of life, knowing that in this world no one is all-knowing and therefore all of us need both love and charity."
- Eleanor Roosevelt
With regards to my recent experiences, I tend to lean heavier towards conviction. Though it is unfair in ways to label people directly without knowing their background, thus emulating those I hate. It would seem nothing short of extremes could force people to come to terms with justice.
"The wise are instructed by reason; ordinary minds by experience; the stupid, by necessity; and brutes by instinct." - Cicero
Said by one of the greatest politicians of Rome. How true it is, that we humans are at times insolent brutes. Perhaps I am guilty of this too by writing of it so. Then again I wonder, if no one is to put an end to such people, who will? And it doing so, are you guilty and contempted for doing what the 'virtuous' refuse to stain their hands with.
Virtue is undoubtedly a great thing among many, its importance further stressed by the dissolution of our society for which pop culture is one of its main proponents. However, virtue is not about being completely vindicated. At times, I find greater virtue in people who performs the necessary, even when are given a choice not to, with an informed decision that they will become a villian in the eyes of the public or concerned parties. Yet they chose to do so, because it is a necessary sacrifice.
"The real danger from advertising is that it helps to shatter and ultimately destroy our most precious non-material possessions: the confidence in the existence of meaningful purposes of human activity and respect for the integrity of man." - Paul
